Winter Carneval in Québec (08.02.2003)
This is kind of the bigger version of "La Fête des Neiges", this time in Québec City. It is a very well known event in Canada, thus lots of tourists come here to see this every February.
One part of the winter carneval is a big exhibition of snow figures.

This does look a bit desperate.
Most exhibition objects were made by teams of various countries. Only one team, I think it was the Mexican team, did not get their object finished in time. Probally it was the first time that they had actually seen snow...

In early years, when there was no bridge crossing the St. Laurence Stream at Québec City, guests of the festival used to be shipped over the river in small canoes. Today, this tradition is still help upright in the form of canoe races. But instead of doing these races in the water, everything happens in the snow, to our disappointment.

The teams actually get very fast with their canoes

It is also possible to slide down the hilly terrain in tires

This is a small castle made entirely from ice and illuminated with changing colors all the time
However, it was incredibly cold on this day, so after some hours outside we where very happy to arrive at the "coffee station" that the Concordia International Students Association had set up for us.
