Snowshoeing in the Adirondacks (15./16.02.2003)

On this weekend, I went on a snowshoeing trip in the Adirondacks, New York State, with Isabelle and three other people of the McGill Outdoor Club. This appeared to be the coldest weekend in the winter; in the night, while we stayed in a small farmhouse, the temperature dropped down to -37 degrees Celsius. When we entered the USA, the personell at the border actually didn't believe that we were planning to go snowshoeing. He then warned Isabelle an me, as the only Europeans, not do be victims of crazy Canadiens that plan crazy trips.

But apart from frozen food, frozen bottles of water and some problems with frostbite, we had an incredible weekend with an amazing sunny weather.

This is one of my favorite pictures. The summit sign was totally covered with ice.

It was so fucking cold and damn windy on the summit of the "Giant Mountain" (about 1400m), that we did not manage to stay here longer than about 2 minutes.

The group split up in between, as three of us just couldn't keep up with the speed of our tour leader Tom. So we (the slow group) decided to have a rest, which doesn't make much fun when your food is entirely frozen.

Hey Isabelle, you really look as if you were 16 on this picture. Cute!
